Saving the Jaguar: searching for solutions to the biggest conflict

The conflicts that are generated when the jaguar attacks cattle are probably the main cause of death today for this species.

When a farmer suffers a certain amount of attacks, usually ends up killing the Jaguar that cause them (or one that is in the area) in retaliation and/or as a measure to end the "problem".

It's a lose-lose conflict; the farmer loses his cows and the Jaguar, its life.

We seek to override this and turn this conflict into a situation where we all win; where the farmer can raise their cows and the Jaguar can continue living in its forests. Click here to learn more and see photos.
 
 
Hundred of Tigreros stick posters all over Misiones province requiring PRISION for the murderer of Guacurarí
 

Thousands of posters calling for justice and prison for the murderer of Guacurarí, are being plastered on the whole provincial territory by hundreds of Tigreros.

Guacurarí, the only Jaguar that was monitored by a satellite collar, was killed by ilegal hunters in the Urugua-í Provincial Park last febrruary.

The call to justice is being expressed in all localities of the province, volunteers stick the printed posters in shops, markets, universities and other sites.

The Red Yaguareté formally requested Chaco and Formosa governors of  to protect the property "La Fidelidad"

It was through two notes delivered in late March and early April. La Fidelidad is a huge property of 250,000 hectares, 150,000 located in Chaco territory and another 100,000 in Formosa.

It is a pristine area without residents and have all the extraordinary biodiversity of the Argentine Chaco: jaguar, giant armadillo, tapir, brocket deer, chacoan peccary, collared peccary, giant anteater, ocelot, etc. This property had been proposed to be a National Park by the Delegation Nea of National Parks Administration because of its rich biodiversity, large surface and strategic location, however, for various reasons the project never materialized.

The petition, signed by Mr. Nicolás Lodeiro Ocampo and by the renowned naturalist Juan Carlos Chebez, respectively president and technical advisor of the Red Yaguareté, noted that "La Fidelidad should be preserved for future generations and expressed concern about its present guard, under its owner's death and the dark interests that surround it". click here to see more.
 
 

New 4 Jaguars joined the Revaluation and Management Program of Captive Jaguars in Argentina

Currently, the Jaguar Network - Red Yaguareté has 8 Yaguaretés in this programme around the country.

The Red Yaguareté and the Ministry of Environment of Salta province signed an agreement to work together for the Jaguar

The Saltas's Environment Minister, Francisco López Sastre, signed in Buenos Aires a Memorandum of Agreement with the President of the Red Yaguareté (Jaguar Network), Nicolás Lodeiro Ocampo. The document sets out the institutional cooperation for the conservation of the Jaguar Natural Monument.

The National Parks Administration and the Red Yaguareté agreed to work together in preventing Jaguar attacks on livestock, in the Yungas forests

 

When a jaguar attacks the livestock that moves in its forests, farmers retaliate and kill him. This is one of the biggest threats the feline is facing. To avoid this conflict, we are developing together with the National Parks Administration an alternative cattle management experience gained in the community of Baritú.
