March 15-16, 2010.
Organized
by the National Parks Administration, the Fiscal Research Unit in
Environmental Matters (UFIMA) and the National Wild
Fauna Direction, took place at Puerto Iguazú City, in misiones
province.
The meeting was attended by judicial authorities (national
and provincial) from different jurisdictions, responsible for national and
provincial protected areas, national guard, representatives of various
police departments, National Gendarmerie, airport police, legal advisers
of the various environment provincial agencies, etc. Two NGOs were present:
Red Yaguareté and FARN.
After several exhibitions (see below schedule of activities) begin the
work in interdisciplinary groups to discuss and search for solutions on
practical cases involving direct hunting and trade in products of the
species, with rich exchanges and specialists recomendations that clarified
complex issues.
Finally, it was discussed in plenary on actions
and commitments to follow the participants and agencies involved, pointing
out concrete actions to develop from here on, among which was decided to
raise the results to the COFEMA, improve communication between the various
jurisdictions to enhance efforts and maximize results and formed a working
group to develop a protocol that clarifies the steps in each jurisdiction
to cases.

Nicolás Lodeiro Ocampo (photo) exposed the
different ways of poaching and illegal comercialization that exists at
the present and threats the species.

discussion in plenary.

Formosa province was the largest number and diversity of representatives
provided (Secretary of Environment, Supervision and control, environmental
police, attorneys).
Unfortunately, there were no judges present, despite having been
especially invited, looks to improve and shows while we must continue
working to increase engagement in this part of the process, which is
exactly the one that is failing.
A very good initiative which we hope will definitely guide the procedures
and actions to end this threat to the jaguar in Argentina.
