On past February 8th, and following a series of events about livestock predation by jaguar, the Regional Northwest Technical Delegation (DTRNOA) of the National Parks Administration (APN), held in the community of Baritú, Salta, a workshop presentation of "Implementation of cattle Management as a tool for jaguar long-term conservation in the Yungas Rainforest of the northwest of the country project", directed by Dr. Pablo Perovic.

This community of about 20 families, is located on the northwest boundary of the National Park of the same name, and its inhabitants lives on subsistence agriculture and livestock. It was chosen as a pilot site for implementing a livestock management alternative system in the context of this program. The objective is to mitigate the conflict situations that occur on the jaguar predation on calves.

Provides for the construction of pens for calves locked up until 3 years of age. It also provides for the use of non-invasive pasture, veterinary and technical advice. This is to prevent the animals more vulnerable to attacks from big cats (up to 3 years old) are loose in the jungle. This in turn decreases the pressure of livestock in the bush and placed on jaguar natural prey, as the participants agree not to hunt the species of animals that usually feed the cat.

During the workshop, attended by the families in the area, it was provided general information about the program, they worked together to define its implementation in this site and relieve the potential sites for the pens proposed by the villagers.

It was noted good interest from people involved in the program.

The program is already being implemented in pilot sites in the area of Normenta in the province of Jujuy, near the Calilegua National Park.
